Trash or Trophy

I threw away my soccer trophies. Soccer Trophies? Is this the same Mellifluous I know? Why yes, I played soccer from 2nd grade through 9th grade. And no, I wasn't more athletic then than I am now, really. I did play long enough to be a decent fullback by the end. But I played on a very good team for most of those years. I often felt like the weakest link, but eventually I was ok. And I enjoyed it...ok, so sometimes I enjoyed it...and sometimes it was much more about the friends on my team.

So, what do you do with trophies from years past? I'm NOT planning to display them...and keeping them to show my kids...well, I can tell them and show them pictures. So, these heavy mementos are hitting the dumpster. Its a little sad, but its also freeing.

All praise to God!

My face has gradually...yet quickly...been returning to normal. With the help of some medication and rest, I am just missing a few little movements. My smile is back...almost back to normal. I can flare my nostril and blink my eye more easily. I'm still working on my eyebrow and some other lip movements need improvement, but God has been exceedingly kind to me and brought back so much in just 10 days time. I am back to having some pain in my jaw, which is not fun, but I'm hoping to manage that with some tylenol or advil or such and much more rest.

To God be the glory, great things He has done!

Happy Birthday George

It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible. George Washington

I've always enjoyed sharing a birthday with the father of our country. So, I've been standing in the kitchen reading quotes from my favorite president while eating a piece of cherry pie (for breakfast! :) ) I like that first one because it makes absolute sense to me and is contrary to the desires of some very vocal citizens in our country. The companion quotation is

Mankind, when left to themselves, are unfit for their own government. George Washington
Profound, George! For the leader of a government by the people and for the people to acknowledge that it takes God and the Bible to make this type of government work, I wonder how anyone could disagree. Left to our sinful nature, this grand experiment would just flop.

My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. All I am I owe to my mother. I attribute all my success in life to the moral, intellectual and physical education I received from her. George Washington

This quotation though made me a little teary eyed. My job is the most important one on the planet...thanks for reminding me George.

Happy Birthday to us!

my duty

I had jury duty today. I called in Friday and found out that I would have to call in this morning at 10:15 to find out if I had to report. Then, when I found out I did have to report, we ran into a mess because Roger had an emergency at work. He arrived home just in time for me to run to duty.

I got there right at 1pm. There was no room to even stand in the room. I listened to the video taped info from the door, and finally got in to turn in my stuff. After a potty break, I walked in to hear that the case I had been assigned to was not going to be a jury trial, so I could go home.

1 hour of driving...1/2 hour at the court...and more stress than I needed.

So, I figured, at least Roger could take his car in to be looked at since he was home. Turns out....its going to be 3 times the amount we thought.

It's turning out to be a GREAT day. :P

Golden Griddle

My most unique gift for my birthday thus far is my very own bottle of Golden Griddle Syrup.

Growing up, this is all I remember my mom buying...and obviously, my sister remembers that too. We have been bemoaning the loss of Golden Griddle off and on since Kroger took over King Soopers and keeps getting rid of name brands for their own generic type brands. And, sadly, I buy those generics because I need to save $$$. But anyway, I got my very own bottle at our party on Saturday, and today I had it on my thin pancakes. *sigh* Take me back!

So, is it wrong that I didn't let my family use it?

Thanks LeAnn!

Bells

On top of everything else in my life....I now have Bell's Palsy. And the sad part is, it is probably the stress of the last week that caused it. *sigh* So, for those who regularly get our Vday letter...its going to be delayed. You see this week, we talked about selling and buying houses in a serious way, I got overwhelmed of how much stuff we have to move, declutter, and pack, had our shower retiled, had a few detours on the way to finishing the project meaning no shower at my home until tomorrow morning(Roger is awesome! thanks babe), my uncle's diagnosis of cancer and now this. So, if you see me, and it looks like I'm giving you the evil eye or a strange, sarscastic smirk...just know that half my face decided to go on vacation. God willing it will come back!

The Blue Monk

My sweet Uncle Chuck went in for surgery today. He was having problems with fluid on his lung or something like that. Unfortunately, the prognosis coming out of surgery was worse than we expected--the dreaded C word.

So, the Blue Monk is the name we gave Uncle Chuck way back when I was little. He had a blue hooded robe that he would put on and come tickle us all. When my folks divorced, Uncle was really a support for us girls, and he is still someone I can go to when I need prayer.

Over the years, he has been a pastor and friend to me. His passion for the Lord and his sweet love for his wife and daughters has always given me hope. Please pray with me for healing for his body and wisdom as they move forward.

thanks

Underdog

No, I'm not talking about the movie that came out this year. I'm talking about the Giants with Eli Manning at the helm winning the Super Bowl. I'm also talking about Charlie Brown catching the Coke balloon. I have no particular ties to NY or NE....in fact, I've never been to either place. Neither team is my Broncos, so I didn't REALLY care. But somehow I started to care a little.

Sorry, MLE, I just couldn't cheer for Mr. Perfect. They just kept showing Mr. Perfect with his perfect season and his perfect supermodel girlfriend, and his perfect modelling shots. And I just wanted the "real" guy to win. I mean, Eli may be a big time football player, but he married his college sweetheart, his brother has all the big endorsements, and his own town didn't like him all that much. Win one for us regular folk who have regular lives! And they did. :)

And Charlie Brown was due to win....even if it was just a Coke.
