AudioA

My sister got to see AudioA when the toured with their first album. My favorite song from that album is DC-10. So I went to their site and couldn't get the sound clip to work on that first album, so I listened to the clip from the compilation CD Underdog. This is the same lyrics, but NOT the same music. DC-10 on the first album was a good, hard, head-banging song...not a ska/big band sound like the clip.

Well, if a DC-10, yeah, fell on your head, and you're laying on the ground all messy and dead....or a Mac Truck ran over you...or lightning struck you in your Sunday pew....

Do you know...where you're gonna go?

I'm sad that their run is over. Here's to a fun band to listen to over the years.

A few good comics lately

I enjoy reading the comics. Here's one I really liked.
The Baby Blues from January 22, 2006 made me laugh out loud. Click here, and then Select another date to find my favorite one.

The end of a nice break

Imagine that you won a year--or 15 months of housecleaning. In the middle you had to take about 6 weeks off, but for the most part you enjoyed a break from a necessary part of your life. Now, you have come to the end of that really nice 15 months and you have a lifetime or maybe at least 20 years of cleaning your own house to look forward to. It's kind of a sad, disappointing thing, but you knew it was coming and in some ways it's a relief to have things back to normal.

That's how I feel today.

My Space

So, I just don't get myspace. Shaylee told me I should join, but I don't really get it. I already have a swell blog...so what does myspace do for me? What makes it worth joining?

I wanted to send a comment to ConnOr, and then I joined and don't even know if he got the comment. And when I joined I automatically got a friend who I don't know, and that's not really why I joined. I also joined the Grace Chapel group, but now I'm just trying to figure the whole thing out.

So anyone who can explain it to me...please give me some help. I don't feel that old...but maybe my age is showing.

There's this guy I know

who totally needs a blog. He's afraid the world isn't ready for him...but I told him that when he's 95 and fly fishing in the middle of winter it won't be so convenient to start his blog. Come on Gmoney....

Direct Access

I have this shirt...its a light color denim and its long...and I love to wear it. It is one of my many, many Softie shirts that I got for free when I worked at sscooRW (small software company out of Redmond, WA). Anyway, Direct Access had something to do with software partners and the Denver part was run by my friend Matt who had a theme song for me. However, I digress.

Direct Access
I love to wear it because it is so freeing
I have Direct Access to God
No middle man...no one telling me what I can and can't tell Him
I don't have to wait to call him when I get home
No waiting in line
no busy signals (or ads telling me that I'll be notified when He's available for only 95 cents)
no curtain between me and Him that I can only cross once a year with a rope tied around my ankle in case he strikes me dead
I'm totally unworthy, and through Christ He gives me Direct Access.

Yeah, I may not have the most Direct Access to my sscooRW anymore, but I have the most amazing Direct Access anyone could ever ask for.

Laughter

My kids love to make each other laugh. It's one of the joys of being home with them. My daughter says "Cranky, cranky....POP!" and they both laugh hysterically. I think Roger figured out that it comes from a jack-in-the-box. May they always have this kind of fun together.

Yummy!

If you ever want some scrumpdelicious brownies, the best mix is Ghirardelli Triple Chocolate Brownies. They carry it at Sam's Club. It is taking all my will power not to eat a 3rd one tonight.

doh!

Something I made for dinner gave Roger an allergic reaction. He has them occasionally, but it has been quite a while since the last one. So if you are wondering why his eyes are bloodshot tomorrow, then that's why. :(

less than 2 weeks

until our Marriage Matters retreat. I'm excited to get my first night away from both kids since there were both kids to be away from. I'm stockpiling milk for Alex, but I'm a bit nervous. The kid has refused a bottle the last 3 times it has been offered to him. I hate to think I'm stockpiling and the silly boy isn't going to drink it. He's taking solids well, so I know he won't starve. I just hope my mom doesn't regret having the kids. Grandmas rarely do, so I'm told. This stage of life will be over so quickly...but I'm glad to have a time of refreshing with my man and my God.

Beethoven Christmas Music

Katrina is still stuck on Christmas. She got Charlie Brown Christmas DVD in her stocking, and she wants to watch it almost every day. (if you haven't read my posts on Charlie Brown Cmas...look in December) Her new favorite thing to do is pretend she is Schroeder...sit at our piano and push some notes...then you have to say "what kind of Christmas music is that?" And she says "Beethoven Christmas music"...or later after she's done it a bunch of times "Mozart Christmas music" "Jingle Bells Christmas music" or "Charlie Brown Christmas music" She has finally stopped insisting on holding the Vince Guaraldi CD in the car and begging to listen to Charlie Brown Christmas music in the car. I have not problem with her choice, but it's almost the end of January, so I'm ready for a break...though I do love the jazz.

Insomnia

So, my 2 1/2 year old has some insomnia. She goes to bed between 8 and 9, but she doesn't go to sleep until close to 11pm. She still gets up at 8am, usually, but wants to nap longer in the afternoon. I love the long naps, but I'm sure they aren't helping her nighttime sleep. She has a nightlight. She usually listens to Mozart or Junior's Bedtime songs to help her settle in. I on the otherhand am not having trouble falling asleep.......

So, my schedule is now open

Hmmm...Feb 5th I could go to a movie, I could shop for clothes or go for a long drive. I could write in my blog about happy things or deep things. Basically, why bother with XL? Next year is another chance for my team. Until then, I guess I can find other things to do with my Sunday afternoons.

Well,

You kind of barely answered my prayer...they at least did some better this half. I'm already feeling sad. :(

please Lord,

please...let them play better during the 2nd half. Even if they don't win...please let them play their best the rest of the game. Amen

Hunts it is!

Well, back when W was stumping for reelection, I seriously considered that I should stop using Heinz ketchup. I mean, really, how could I support a company who is run by someone who was not in keeping with my conservative values, who was spiteful, who was a flip-flopper, and who just plain irritated me? Well, the problem is that I like Heinz ketchup...I haven't really found one that is as good. But now, perhaps I will have to try Hunts... I guess Heinz has naming rights for the Steelers stadium...and they sent a bottle of ketchup that dissed on Jake Plummer. (Jake the Snake, Hair today gone tomorrow) Now I'm not in love with Jake, but he's doing a good job as our QB. You don't have to be GQ to play football...and there are lots of guys out there that prove it. So, now I feel obligated to at least try another brand of ketchup...even if it isn't as good.

Predominantly Orange Friday

Our governor and the mayor of Denver declared today Orange Friday! As I searched my closet, I was dismayed to find no real orange that was suitable. I have a few orange shirts in my summer stuff, but nothing that I could find that was really orange. I had the same problem with my daughter, and though my son has a few Broncos things, he only has one that fits him right now, and I have to get that clean for Sunday. So, we decided to go with Predominantly Orange.

What is Predominantly Orange? Glad you asked. Back up a decade or so to the reinventing of the football uniform. I would guess just about every franchise decided to update their look. As they talked about updating our beloved Broncos, those of us with orange blood in our veins were concerned. If they are going for fashionable, would they keep the orange? We were assured that the uniforms would be predominantly orange.

Now, take a look at our jerseys. I give you a glimpse! Lest you wonder...lest you imagine Inigo Montoya from the Princess Bride saying "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. " Let me assure you that webster.com stated the definition of predominantly as "for the most part : MAINLY" Now the spin agent in charge of making us happy will never live this down. I saw "Predominantly orange" stated in the paper at least 2 times just today.

So, because of lack of orange, my kids and I dressed in predominantly orange today. I do think I'll have to shop for a Broncos shirt tomorrow. Roger thinks he'll wait until he can get one saying Super Bowl XL, but I really want a generic one that I can wear for more than just this year. Even though Blue...uh...predominantly orange is my favorite color, I do want one with a little more of the traditional orange. We'll see if I can find it.

I should buy stock in General Mills

My daughter eats Cheerios morning, noon and night. She will ask for it for every snack. If I didn't push a variety of foods, I think she might have Cheerios and nothing else for many many meals without stop. She doesn't have them with milk on them...just plain. She does drink her yummy milk in a cup when she eats them however. Also, her 2nd choice is Kix. She knows where to find the cereal and is happy to get it out without asking. I admit I haven't introduced her to many other cereals...most of which we call Daddy's cereal...like Reeses or anything sugary. She is a good eater...she'll try most anything especially when we bring up Green Eggs and Ham, but Churyos ranks up there...In fact I'd say it is its very own food group.

27-13 BRONCOS!!!!!

The Prodigal has returned

My laptop with new motherboard arrived today! No charge!! Kill the fattened cookie dough, this machine which left me has come home again.

Pomegranate

a thick-skinned several-celled reddish berry that is about the size of an orange and has many seeds with pulpy crimson arils of tart flavor Webster.com

Pomegranates are really cool. They taste fun, and its a little work to eat them which makes them fun for snacking on a lazy day. Always remember to wear dark clothes and expect some stains on your fingers. I've heard you can buy just the arils...but I think that would take some of the fun out of it. Strangely, I don't like the pomegranate juice that is on the market, but I've gotta have at least 1 good Pomegranate each winter.

I'm no Moses

but there was a burning bush outside my townhome complex tonight...well, it was REALLY burning, not miraculously burning but not burning up...Interesting fire drill at the McKnights. Katrina was in a diaper and coat, Alex was asleep, Roger in some old birks and socks--not his most stylish moment, and me in his shoes. It was just a few minutes outside til we were cleared to go back in.

Roger: Great, now we have an arsonist in the neighborhood. Ready to move?

Funny for Moms...all others read at your own risk!

Ellie: Your little guy sure is getting big
Tricia: Yeah, he is!
Ellie: What are you feeding him? Ice Cream?
Tricia: Dairy Queen....I AM the Dairy Queen!

:D

I can feel it in the air

It's time for a chick-flick! I've been watching the buck flicks for Pride and Prejudice, but it isn't showing at my normal ones. It is, however, showing at a 2/3buck flick that isn't too far from my house. Ellie, let's pick a date, and if anyone else wants to join us, then comment or email me, and I'll let you know the details.

Define Chick-flick....here's a first attempt--a movie about relationships where no one needs to be blown up!

Congratulations

to my sweet man! He perservered through 10 grueling months, and he finally graduated. The ceremony was just 35 minutes on our computer...most of which was the keynote by Rudy Guiliani. The online reception is later this morning. He worked hard to balance family and homework, getting good grades, and working full time. In the middle, he got a new position and a new son. I'm very proud of his accomplishment!

Dried Garlic

Ever wonder the easiest way to dry garlic? Just put it in your kitchen in an out of the way place for several years. When you go to use it, it's all dried up.

An attitude fix for 2006

Ok, so I stole the title from Pastor Paul, who (I'm pretty sure) borrowed it from Char, his wife. But I'm in need of an attitude fix...mainly because it's been a lousy week.

For the first time in over 10 years, I have strep or some form of tonsilitis and it knocked me on my rear! My throat felt like I'd been swallowing knives unsuccessfully and just got worse from there. It was hard enough to let Roger go back to work after 2 weeks of having him home, but then to be feeling SO miserable. On top of that, Alex has got a cold...or now it seems it could be strep for him too. Roger's not feeling tip top. And none of has gotten a ton of sleep because of how miserable everyone else is feeling and everyone waking up coughing or sweating or yucky. Copays for the doctors eat up our fun money...but we're not really feeling very fun, are we?

The bright spots
My wonderful mother-in-law Nita who watched the kids on Wednesday and let me sleep in her spare room while she took care of them until evening. Then she came over for a few hours yesterday to give me a break!
My mommy who offered to rock me and give me hot tea with honey in it just like when I was a little girl. I might just take her up on it!

I guess 2006 has to get better...since the start has been miserable.
