Jane Austen

Is it legal for a male to like reading Jane Austen? Or watching a movie based on a Jane Austen novel? If it is legal--is it only legal in England or can American men also read/watch? Which is better--watching Anne of Green Gables or Pride and Prejudice? What is it about JA that draws in women readers?

Does it make sense for a movie company to make a 2 hour movie of something which was marvelously done in 6 hours (paraphrased from my friend Ellie)? How can 2 hours even compare? If anyone out there wants to come critique the new P&P when it comes to the buck flicks with Ellie and I, let me know.

I love Pride and Prejudice and I loved the BBC's version of it and I was surprised to see they were making another version of it. My first thought was to boycott it because I know it will never be as good as the BBC's, but then I got curious. I'll probably see it, but there's no way that Kiera Knightley will be a better Elizabeth Bennet than Jennifer Ehle was. That's probably my biggest problem with the whole thing - I can't stand Kiera Knightley.

Don't you think Kiera Knightley would make a good Lydia Bennett? She just doesn't have the sophistication to play Elizabeth.

Yes! She would be. Kiera Knightley just doesn't look like an Elizabeth.

It is a bit strange how life works. When we moved in with Dana she owns the BBC production. I watched it and have fallen in love with it. I got the book two weeks ago and love the movie even more because it is so true to the book. Why would someone even bother making another version? It is lunacy! Madness, I tell you madness. I agree Kiera just is NOT our 'dearest beautiful Lizzy'. Who is playing Darcy? Well y'all will have to let me know how bad/good the new one is.
